HATTON LEGISLATION - STOP ANIMAL CRUELTY!

What is it?

The purposed Hatton legislation is legislation to help prevent animal cruelty and to establish a registry of those who have been convicted of animal cruelty. The legislation will also require those who provide animal services or who own companies in Canada who do to be licensed. Those who have been convicted or are under current investigation will not be granted a licence.

Why is it necessary?

There is no law in most of Canada that stops anyone from opening up a business that involves people’s pets or animals. As an example anyone can be a dog groomer overnight or a boarder just put up a sign and you’re in business. A good example of this is Paula Hatton of British Colombia. This sometimes waitress was a registered escort and worked in the sex trade. She travels to Ontario and opens The Particular Pooch in Barrie Ontario. From prostitution to groomer/boarder no experience required.

This business now known as “The Particular House of Horrors” was run by her from 2001 till early 2006. She fled the business and Ontario returning back to BC a short time after a perfectly health beloved pet came for a groom and died of internal injuries at the vets immediately thereafter. Within weeks of being back in BC she has a new boyfriend and another new grooming business. She ran it out of a company called A J’s Dog House in Coquitlam BC. Her grooming side become known as “The Dapper Dog” in an effort to lose the name The Particular Pooch her Ontario business name.

She now has yet another new location for her Dapper Dog grooming business, this is her current advertisement.

Note that it is a safe and comfortable environment. Vet recommended. As in Ontario and in her prior ads in newspapers etc. she claims to be a “award winning groomer” She is not at least was not while in Ontario an award winning groomer even though she advertises that she is. In Ontario the small town paper runs a yearly gig and you can vote for your favourite hamburger, hair cut or whatever. She sent in bunch votes for the grooming shop so she claims to be an “award winning groomer”.

Ontario court documents show that Paula Diane Hatton is a defendant along with her father Peter Hatton a photographer, her mother Sharon Hatton and her sister Leah Hatton/Mcgeachie. The statement of claim seeks $800,000 from her in damages and her relations. The claim filed by her former spouse alleges among other things that she defrauded him of over $200,000.00 Part of these funds were in the form of a loan that he gave of $50,000.00 to her father Peter Hatton. The claim says that there was never any real intent on giving him back his money.

In the claim her former spouse states that Paula Hatton was a waitress in a fine dinning establishment that he owned in Toronto. At the time they met he ran a number of companies and had over 120 employees. The claim states that she seen money and they were married. However his company became embroiled in lengthy litigation and he and his companies were petitioned into bankruptcy he lost his companies and his wife soon followed.

The claim states that he paid for and constructed a shop on his property which became known as the Particular Pooch. That Paula Hatton also took in Dogs as boarders at their property and that at anytime she would have as many as 8-10 dogs staying daily. That she earned 400-500 a day doing this on top of the grooming business and that these were usually cash. That most of this income went unreported with no taxes paid. Over the years the claim estimates that she defrauded the government of tax of over 200,000.00 The claim states that it is believed that the Dapper Dog now does the same.

The claim states that people who left their dog thought that the dog was staying in the house when in reality they were not. They were simple left for the most part in the grooming shop. If they were to be picked up on say a Sunday night she would bring them and their stuff over to the house just before the unsuspecting client came to pick up.

The claim also states that he and his wife would argue about the number of grooms being done. It states that a large number were done by her and the other two female employees. That it was tense all the time and that the staff and Paula Hatton were abusive to the dogs. Her former spouse states that he has come to the shop on many occasions when Paula or her staff, were beating dogs. He seen dogs dangle of tables with a noose around their neck (used to hold them in place) with them being punched because they were not being still enough.

He states that he warned her often in particular about one of the groomers and her aggression toward the dogs. The claim states that Paula Hatton did nothing about the abuse simple because it paid well
